Kanye’s Diamond Teeth

Friday, November 5th, 2010

For those of you that haven’t already heard, Kanye West has diamond teeth. And we thought he already had everything.

Kanye recently showed off his bottom-row bling on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and there’s coverage of him exposing his sparkling grin in the November issue of Vanity Fair.

Kanye first announced his new bottom teeth on Twitter back in July (picture can be seen @kanyewest).

Singers with blinged-out teeth aren’t anything new. Lil Wayne is often seen sporting his bejeweled mouth out and about. However, he underwent a series of root canals and tooth implants to save his original teeth. And it’s a good thing because he did have to remove his grills when he went off to Riker’s Island prison. His teeth- jewelry slip on over his actual teeth.

Kanye’s new teeth aren’t going anywhere. His actual bottom teeth were reportedly knocked out back in 2002.  Staying true to his true larger-than-life style, he had permanent diamond ones put in.

This might prove to be a challenge in the years to come. Chewing may be difficult, not to mention brushing. It’s also possible that the diamond bottom row might start to erode the upper row of his actual teeth.

What advice can we offer him? Make sure you brush regularly and floss (if he can floss the bottom teeth) and use an oral rinse at least twice day.  And be sure to see your dentist regularly.

They are diamonds after all, so keep them shiny and the rest of your mouth healthy.

Celebrities Have Bad Breath Too

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

We like to think that our favorite celebrities are without flaws, but the truth is, they all have issues like us. For instance, it’s been highly noted that many celebrities have bad breath. It’s understandable considering many actors spend hours upon hours shooting scenes. When you have to say lines over and over or sing for hours on end, you’re likely to end up with a dry mouth and bad breath. Celebrities drink coffee and alcohol just like most people, so of course they’re going to have bad breath too.

We hate to break it to Matt Damon fans, but allegedly he has bad breath. Not too long ago, Sarah Silverman was quoted as saying this about him:

“The worst thing I could say is, you know, Matt Damon is, like, a perfectionist. And his breath is like, Jesus! And his hair plugs are really obvious.”

This was said about Damon during an event back in March where he was presented with the 24th American Cinematheque Award. Although Sarah Silverman said it in a joking manner, there is probably some truth to what she said.

We don’t want to single Matt Damon out because there is a long list of celebrities who have been reported as having bad breath. We won’t mention names, but there are many famous people who have turned to Dr. Katz to help them with their dry mouth and bad breath problems.

Naturally, if you have dry mouth, this means you have less saliva in your mouth. This creates an environment with less oxygen and more bacteria. If you have this problem, remember that you’re not alone! We do recommend using our oral rinse twice a day, drinking plenty of water, and taking Vitamin C on a daily basis.

Joss Stone Doesn’t Like Bad Breath

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Joss Stone, a 22-year-old United Kingdom soul singer, says her main turn-off in a man is bad breath.  She says that she would never date a man with halitosis, and says “there’s nothing worse than bad breath.  I’ve snogged people with bad breath who smelt of fags and beer and it made me feel sick.”  She wants the men that she dates to have minty and fresh breath.

Even though she said she wants her boyfriends to be very clean, she has admitted that her hair isn’t always freshly shampooed.  She even said the following: “I once went a week without washing my hair and I did it deliberately because I wanted the natural oils to mend my hair. It didn’t smell, surprisingly, and no one commented on it. They probably thought, ‘Oh it’s just Joss.’ ”

She is currently single and said that she has a hard time finding the right man because she is too much of a free spirit, and men would get too protective and jealous if she wanted to disappear or go on a road trip.

Lil Wayne: Bad Breath After 8 Root Canals?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

TMZ: Those grills come at a price! In an attempt to preserve what is left of his natural teeth, Lil Wayne had to suffer through eight root canals and other major dental measures.  He had multiple tooth implants redone, some new ones added, and a few real teeth repaired.  He also had his platinum and bejeweled grill removed since he has to go to Riker’s Island prison next month.

His mouth, along with many other well-known rappers, is filled with gold and diamonds.  Some people have gold in their dentures or wear a mouth grill.  Allegedly, these grills can have a very negative effect on the teeth of those who have poor oral hygiene.  People can especially have problems if the grills are not put on properly.

#LilWaynesbreath was actually one of the top trending topics on Twitter, and many people were speculating how Lil Wayne must have bad breath.  One of our followers even said that “maybe TheraBreath can help #LilWaynesbreath”!  If that’s the case, too bad we weren’t there to help!

This Gadget Can Test for Bad Breath!

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

breath test

So, it’s common knowledge that bad breath isn’t something that people are too fond of.  It can hurt friendships, work relationships, romances, and so on.  Allegedly, Barack Obama wakes up ‘stinky and snory’, according to his wife Michelle!

Now, in the United Kingdom, a machine that is 50 times more sensitive than the human nose exists that can supposedly get rid of halitosis – for good!  This gas chromatography machine measures and identifies the three primary types of bad breath-causing bacteria.  It doesn’t just say if someone has halitosis, but it specifically identifies the kinds of molecules that are causing the problem.  This helps dental professionals target the halitosis more precisely.  This machine was developed in Australia, and it costs around £8,000 (which is over $12,000 in America).   The machine works by having patients give a breath sample into a plastic syringe, and it usually gives results within 15 minutes.

After diagnosing the bad breath, the dentists recommend nasal flushes, medicated mouthwash, etc., in order to banish the anaerobic bacteria causing the bad breath.  Depending on where the anaerobic bacteria is located (i.e. mouth, throat, or nose), it gives off different smells.  The tongue is usually the culprit if the bad breath is coming from the mouth, since the smell could be comng from proteins being broken down into amino acids.  In the throat, bad breath often comes from the tonsils, from certain growths that are usually formed by food debris.  Tonsil stones are not uncommon.  Through the nose, sinus infections and excess mucus (post nasal drip) often cause bad smells.
