Poll says XYB: Examine Your Breath (especially before a date!)

A recent survey confirmed everyone’s worst fears about halitosis: According to a poll held by a U.S. chewing gum manufacturer, bad breath is one of the all-time confidence killers, especially when it comes to meeting someone new. If you think you have oral odor, then it’s best to pop a piece of specialty oxygenating gum in your mouth now, while you still have a chance of getting a date.

Halitosis is date repellant

For the survey, researchers took aside more than 1,400 Americans and asked them the hard questions about bad breath. How often do you get it? What’s your oral care regimen like? Have you ever been rejected for having halitosis?

The answers were pretty darn grim. Respondents across the board said that oral odor takes attraction and almost instantly kills it.

– In the poll, 70 percent of people said that getting bad breath meant having zero confidence when meeting new people.

– Among people between the ages of 18 and 34, three in five said that if someone else has halitosis – say, on a first date or in a club – they immediately lost interest.

- Finally, the most shocking result was that 85 percent of people admitted that it’s harder to tell someone else they have bad breath than it is to inform ‘em that their zipper is down.

So, instead of XYZ, try XYB

That’s right: Examine Your Breath. It’s easy to get halitosis without even knowing it, which is why it’s important to know how to correctly sniff your breath.

To start, avoid the old breathing-into-your-palms routine. It doesn’t work, and it’ll leave you dateless. Instead, try licking the back of your hand and taking a quick whiff. This will give you a more accurate idea of just how funky your mouth is.

As a bonus, it’s easy to do this discreetly, even in a crowded place. (The other good methods – smelling your floss or sniffing scrapings taken from your tongue – are pretty tough to pull off in public.)

If you find that your breath reeks, or even that it’s just a little sour, don’t risk it. Chew a piece of TheraBreath gum or pop one of our Mouth Wetting Lozenges immediately. Such products neutralize smells and banish bacteria, leaving you free to get into an effortless – and odorless – summer romance.
